How to use this site

The Navigation Bar gives entry to the different areas of the site.

Ten sections describe plant growth and grain development from germination to harvest ripe. These are times that complement the cDNA libraries that have been sequenced for the IGF project.

  • Germination
  • Early Growth and Tillering
  • Stem Elongation
  • Flowering and Fertilization
  • Grain Growth: 1-4 Days after flowering
  • Grain Growth: 4-10 Days after flowering
  • Grain Filling: 11-16 Days after flowering
  • Grain Filling: 17-21 Days after flowering
  • Grain Filling: 21-30 Days after flowering
  • Dry Down
Four special compilations collect together pictures of
  • The growing point of the shoot (apex) as it changes from leaf to flower production
  • Pollen release and fertilization for one spikelet
  • Changes in the layers of the cuticle in the developing grain
  • Embryo development within the grain
Click on a topic and a sub-menu appears which gives you entry to the picture database. Click a thumbnail picture to enlarge it and find the annotations. A full size picture is available for download too.

There are also sections on How We Grew the Plants for the Investigating Gene Function (IGF) project and the Photography and Microscopy protocols.

A SEARCH facility and Glossary are included.

There are links, at the bottom of the Introductions to each section, to special interest internal pages.
